About us

Nøla is an early-stage deep-tech startup building a reusable molecular filter that removes caffeine from brewed coffee while preserving the original flavor. Our mission is to develop filters that let coffee lovers enjoy any bean, roast, or brew—without the caffeine, but with all the original flavor.

About the Role

We're looking for a BSc or MSc student with an interest in analytical chemistry to help us evaluate the materials produced by our synthesis work.

This role is focused primarily on analytical testing, with HPLC as the main analytical technique. You'll work on a structured project to run and document analytical methods for quantifying caffeine and evaluating the performance of our materials. The work could be structured as a Special Course at DTU, depending on the student's study programme and DTU requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples from polymer synthesis and filter experiments for analytical testing.
  • Run HPLC methods for quantifying caffeine and other compounds.
  • Perform calibration, sample analysis, and routine HPLC measurements.
  • Process and interpret analytical data to evaluate material and filter performance.
  • Compare results across different materials, formulations, and experimental conditions.
  • Maintain clear and structured records of methods, measurements, and results.
  • Help establish reliable and reproducible analytical workflows.
  • Present findings clearly and discuss results with the Nøla team.

You Might Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Are a BSc or MSc student in chemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
  • Have experience with HPLC, or a strong interest in learning the technique.
  • Are comfortable with basic concepts such as calibration curves, concentrations, dilutions, retention time, and quantitative analysis.
  • Enjoy working with data and paying attention to small differences in experimental results.
  • Are methodical and care about producing reliable, reproducible measurements.
  • Are comfortable working independently on a defined project while asking for help when needed.
  • Are reliable and able to commit around 10 hours per week on-site.
  • Can communicate clearly in English.

Mindset

We're looking for someone who is curious, methodical, and comfortable working with data.

You don't need to be an expert in HPLC or analytical method development. We know that everyone has to start somewhere, and this role is a chance to build practical analytical experience while working on a real product. What matters most is that you are willing to learn. We'll provide guidance and support as you develop the analytical workflow.
