Laboratory Assistant – Coffee Tech StartupOrganic Chemistry / Materials Science

Copenhagen (DTU Skylab, no remote work possible)Part-time | ~10 hours/week | Three months test period | UnpaidFood Tech | Coffee Tech | ChemistryStart: September 2026

About us

Nøla is an early-stage deep-tech startup building a reusable molecular filter that removes caffeine from brewed coffee while preserving the original flavor. Our mission is to develop filters that let coffee lovers enjoy any bean, roast, or brew—without the caffeine, but with all the original flavor. You'll join an early-stage startup where your work directly contributes to developing a physical product. If you enjoy being in the lab, working with chemistry, and seeing experiments turn into something tangible, you'll fit right in!

About the Role

We're looking for a reliable and hands-on Laboratory Assistant to support our team with day-to-day experimental work.

You'll work closely with the team, follow established instructions and experimental protocols, and help us keep experiments moving efficiently.

The role is well suited to a BSc or MSc student who already has some laboratory experience and enjoys it. This role is a great opportunity if you'd like to gain more hands-on experience. We know that everyone has to start somewhere, and we're happy to support someone who is motivated to learn. What matters most is that you are careful, reliable, organized, and comfortable working with chemicals and laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out organic synthesis and other laboratory procedures according to established protocols.
  • Prepare and handle solutions, reagents, polymers, and samples accurately.
  • Set up and support experiments, including weighing, measuring, labeling, and sample preparation.
  • Record experimental work and results clearly and consistently.
  • Keep the laboratory, equipment, and materials clean, organized, and properly stocked.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and support the team with day-to-day practical lab tasks.

You Might Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Are a BSc or MSc student in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related field.
  • Have hands-on experience with organic synthesis or laboratory chemistry through coursework, projects, internships, or previous lab work.
  • Are comfortable working with chemicals, glassware, balances, pipettes, and standard laboratory equipment.
  • Can follow written and verbal instructions carefully and consistently.
  • Are methodical and pay attention to details such as quantities, labels, timings, and sample identification.
  • Are comfortable doing repetitive or routine experimental work when it needs to be done correctly.
  • Are reliable and able to commit around 10 hours per week on-site.
  • Can communicate clearly in English.

Mindset

We're looking for someone who is careful, dependable, and practical.

You don't need to be an independent researcher or come up with new experimental ideas. We already have the experimental direction and will give you clear instructions on what needs to be done. What we value is someone who takes instructions seriously, works carefully, asks when something is unclear, and takes pride in producing clean, reliable lab work. If you enjoy being in a laboratory and being the person the team can rely on to get things done properly, this could be a great fit.

What We Offer

  • Practical laboratory experience in an early-stage deep-tech startup.
  • Hands-on experience with organic synthesis, polymers, and materials development.
  • Close collaboration with the founding team and exposure to the technical side of a chemistry startup.
  • Possibility to use the work as a Special Course at DTU, depending on the student's study programme and DTU requirements.
  • Possibility to continue with Nøla beyond the initial test period if there is a mutual fit.
  • A personalised letter of recommendation after the internship.
